US PGA Tour winner Nathan Green added his name to a long list of decorated title holders of the Ron Crouch Transport Pro-Am on Friday.
Green produced a bogey-free final round of 64 to win the $40,000 showpiece event.
The accomplished Newcastle golfer finished at 11 under, one in front of 2014 New Zealand Open winner Dimitrios Papadatos who made a strong charge at Green and levelled at 10 under after a birdie on the 16th.
But with the pressure on, Green rallied and birdied the 16th himself before producing some clutch shots on the final two holes to hold on.
“I’ve never been good at closing, so I was a bit nervous, but I hit some good shots today, so I was pretty happy with it actually. It’s good to win one that everyone wants to win,” Green said.
Green returned home to Australia in 2014 after 10 years on the US circuit. He does not play as much anymore but was thrilled to win the Pro-Am.
“For me, it’s probably the best Pro-Am of the year. There’s some we play for more money but there’s not many that the whole town gets behind. It’s just got one of those feels. It’s a small town but good crowds and everyone gets behind it. Some of the tour events you play, no one would even know you’re there, but here it’s a good vibe, a good course and I was really happy with it,” he said. Matt Malone, Wagga Daily Advertiser
