Jorgensen wins Moneyball for WDF

Talented A Grade golfer Blake Jorgensen combined with WDF to win Wagga Wagga Country Club’s inaugural edition of Moneyball on Saturday night.

WDF, a loyal sponsor of the club, is $20,000 richer after Jorgensen delivered the goods from the 17th Shootout position in front of a big crowd.

Jorgensen put his second shot just 90cm from the pin. It proved enough to take out the $20,000 prize.

WDF director Charles Talbot snapped up Jorgensen for his company’s slot after getting a first-hand look at his game in a recent RL Smith Matchplay fixture.

The rest is now history as Jorgensen stayed cool under pressure to win the event in it’s first year.

“It was a fantastic shot,” Talbot said.

“I played Blake in RL Smith Matchplay a couple of weeks back and he pasted me seven under through eight holes so I picked the right man to have the shot I think.”

Jorgensen, who received a cut of the prizemoney from WDF for producing the winning shot, was thrilled to defeat a quality field to win the inaugural Moneyball.

“I feel pretty good. It’s pretty surreal, really,” Jorgensen said.

“I jagged a couple of good shots and feeling pretty good.

“I’ve never really been under that type of pressure, not that many high balls before so it was good to get one away.”

Earlier in the night, Melanie Cramp, the only woman hitting in the event, found the lead.

The crowd came to life when Cramp, the 2024 Women’s Club Champion, hit her opening shot to 134cm.

That followed the club’s junior champion, Jesse Barac, finding the front with a 375cm effort.

The Moneyball concept proved a winner, with a good crowd in attendance and all 20 slots being filled.
